Who we are...

Following three months post tsunami work the Galle district of Sri Lanka, Philip Jach returned home to the UK with many stories of hardship and decided to look at ways to make a difference.

Family and friends reacted positively to the opportunity to donate funds that would go directly to those in need. And so, Lifejacket was born.

Philip corralled the support of friends and family and launched Lifejacket, achieving Registered Charity status in January 2006.  Lifejacket is based in Bridport in the UK with a small committee of professionals.

As a small charity, Lifejacket can provide effective and direct support to victims of natural flood disaster in the developing world. The entirely voluntary basis of all Lifejacket staff enables all fundraising to be directed at those projects most in need of support.

Five Years On

More than five years after the tsunami, Lifejacket remains committed to supporting those who are still affected by this devastating event. The drop in tourist numbers and turbulent political situation in Sri Lanka places an added challenge to rebuilding livelihoods and guaranteeing futures.

By keeping our charity small, we ensure that the money we raise goes directly to individuals who will benefit in the long-term.

Lifejacket's aim is to support those affected by natural flood damage. We also want to be in able to support people in other areas and countries, particularly places that are affected annually by severe flooding.

As a small charity, we value the support of our loyal supporters. We are always keen to hear from individuals who would like to join in our efforts in any way.
